Raja Lodhra was the son of Sikh Raja Raam Dyo Minhas and his family was called the decendants of Sooraj Hansi Rajput. Lodhra family was lived in prior state Bahawalpur which later in the starting of 1743, populated in the valley of Sutlej and Byas rivers. This is why this area was known as Lodhar Wah. In 1849, Multan joined together with East India Company which made Lodhran a tehsil on 5th May, 1883. Malik Ghulam Hussain Lodhra 'zaildar' suggested the name "Lodhran" for this area. At that time, there were only 19 villages in Lodhran and it was a tehsil of district Multan. This area was situated in Kot Peer Sa-aadat at that time and the tehsil office had also been working there for three years. Later on tehsil office was built within the city Lodhran. Munshi Abdul Wahid was the first superintendent of Lodhran. In 1924, the areas of Kehror Pacca and Dunyapur was seperated from tehsil Mailsi and included in tehsil Lodhran.
To educate the young generation and to spread the knowledge, there are uncountable institutions, schools and colleges working in Lodhran. Many Government, Semi-Government and Non-Government girls and boys primary and high schools, Inter Commercial Institute, Vocational Institute and colleges are working to educate the people. Many hospitals are also here. During August, 1873, Sadar Police Station and in 1885, the Railway Station was founded. On 1st April, 1909, the British Government spread a railway line from Lodhran to Karachi.

In 1981, M. Arshad Khan, advocate and Ch. M. Ali Gohar, advocate founded the "Make Lodhran District" movement to get the degree of district for Lodhran. A great struggle was started under the leadership of Dr. Sher Mohammad Aawan. At last the public struggle succeeded and former federal minister for foriegn affairs Mr. M. Siddique Khan Kanjee, shaheed tried his best and Mr. Ghulam Haidar Va-een, former prime minister of province Punjab granted Lodhran the degree of ditrict on 30th June, 1991 while Kehror Pacca and Dunyapur became tehsils and 14 villages were cut from Jalalpur Peer wala and included in tehsil Lodhran. Shoukat Hayat Khan Durrani became the first deputy commissioner of Lodhran district and M. Akhtar Khan Kanjoo was selected as the first chairman of District Council, Lodhran. It is 32nd district of Punjab which is situated between the rivers Sutlej and Byas. These rivers make its borders. River Byas has now became a part of past but Sutlej river still flows. This area is 30 feet higher than the surface of the sea and situated on 29.32 northern latitude ans 71.41 eastern longitude. In the north of Lodhran, there're Multan and Khanewal districts and in the south, there's district Bahawalpur. In east, tehsil Mailsi while in west Shuja Abad and Jalalpur Peer wala tehsils are situated.

The climate of this area is very suitable for agriculture and most of its population is depending upon agriculture. Cotton, wheat, sugarcane and rice are very profitable crops here. District Lodhran produces wheat and cotton in most quantity that any other district. Grand fields of orange, guava and mango can also be found here. Lodhran is very important as an industrial area too. Here are many industries like electric poll factory, ice factories, cotton factories, butter factories, oil mills and ghee mills this is why chances of employment are produced for people here. Great land-lords and business-men, politicians and bureaucrats, poets and writers, servants and labourers, they all are working for the progress of this area. District Lodhran consists of 436 villages and its total area is 6,91,115 acre while the area of tehsil Lodhran is 2,65,445 acre. The famous and historic town and villages of tehsil Lodhran are Adam Wahan, Galay wala, Gogran, Khanwah Ghalwan, Jallah Araeen, Chhamb Kulyar, Kot Laal Shah, Wahi Ali Araeen, Rukanpur, Juggoo wala, Thathee Sameja, Sherpur, Havelee Naseer Khan, Ravanee, Jalal Abad, Rajapur, Motha, Chak Hamta and Kamalpur Jatyal; in tehsil Kehro Pacca, Alipur Kanjoo, Dhanot, Massah Kotha, Jaladee wahan, Qadirpur Chamna, Bele wagha and Noqabil Wah while in tehsil Dunyapur, Makhdoom Aalee, Noor Garh and Qutabpur etc. are famous and historic towns. In district Lodhran Lodhra, Bhatti, Kanjoo, Noon, Mughal, Araeen, Jhandeer, Joiya, Ghalloo, Balouch, Langah, Danwar, Jatyal, Qureshi, Koreja, Rajput, Kulyar, Sameja, Wagha Mal, Wahocha, Rahoja, Syed, Shajra, Channar, Chachar, Shekh, Massan, Bhutta, Thaheem and Balheem etc. families are populated.
